American Red Cross - Civil War Blood Drive - Final Update

Portland, Oregon - American Red Cross and Lane County Memorial Blood Bank want to thank all UO Duck and OSU Beaver fans who came out to donate blood and platelets during the Civil War Blood Drive. Many thanks are due, including: both universities and alumni associations, sponsors, media, and staff who participated. The turnout was excellent, and 2008 was the biggest year of collections in the seven year history of the campaign.

The Civil War Blood Drive total units donated were 7,535 - UO Ducks came in at 3,339 - and the trophy goes to the winning team - The Oregon State Beavers with 4,196 units. In the game of blood and platelet donation; everyone is a winner!
The winner of a pair of Civil War Football game tickets was Clayton Miller, this was Clayton's first blood donation, he is 16 yeas old, and resides in Turner, Oregon.

During the winter season; blood donations typically decline. Donating blood is a great way to give an important gift for the holiday season. RIVALS FOR LIFE:
ANNUAL CIVIL WAR BLOOD DRIVE

Each autumn the American Red Cross, Lane Memorial Blood Bank, Oregon State University and the University of Oregon take part in a statewide, two-week campaign to increase community blood donations prior to the critical holiday period.

Fans, students and alumni of both universities are encouraged to donate on behalf of their team during the event at any Red Cross or Lane Memorial blood drive in Oregon. The university with the most submitted ballots will be announced at the Civil War football game.

This friendly competition between both state universities brings fans and alumni throughout Oregon to local blood drives and helps raise the awareness of the constant need for blood.
