Positive Donor ID
Volunteer blood donors must show identification when giving blood at an American Red Cross blood donation center or local blood drive.
The American Red Cross has implemented this policy to be sure that our blood donors:
- are properly identified in Red Cross records
- are not currently disqualified from donating
- can be reached for further follow up if needed
All blood donors must present valid ID prior to giving blood. Check here for a list of acceptable forms of ID.
Are You Eligible?
Here are some very basic eligibility requirements.
Potential donors must:
- Weigh at least 110 pounds
- Be at least 16 years of age*
- Be in general good health
- Not have donated blood in the last 56 days

*In Oregon you may donate at age 16 with a signed American Red Cross parental consent form. In Washington, 16- and 17-year-olds need parental consent at Red Cross blood drives.
